Marella Discovery – new bar

Objective – To increase the range and choice of bars and entertainment.  Live Room was the single biggest alteration made to the ship, taking two spaces (the majority of which was big Vegas style casino) and creating one big bar and entertainment venue with an integrated casino area to appeal to a modern UK customer base.

My role – to oversee concept development (both creatively and commercially), ensuring feasibility within budget and work with Trimline construction to transition from concept to detailed drawings and full implementation and with Apollo catering to ensure operational functionality and differentiate the bar to make it a destination.

Solution –  Live Room is a contemporary space, with a central wrap around bar, feature yellow piano and striking ceiling discs and lighting, a go to venue for a post show party attracting a modern audience and symbolising a radical step forward for the brand. Challenges included sound proofing the deck (with cabins below), working with minimal ceiling height and being located next door to the atrium (pulling these venues apart).

Outcome – Live Room is a popular, signature space featuring PR-able elements like the yellow piano and technology orientated entertainment and lighting.  The bar appeals to modern cruise customers adding more choice and balance between venues on board.
